Mother Wanted for Over a Year in Connection to Her Son’s Death Found and Arrested in California

A woman, Dejaune Ludie Anderson, 38, who has been wanted by Indiana police since the discovery of her son’s remains in a suitcase in April 2022, was located and arrested last week in Arcadia, California. According to the Indiana State Police, Anderson is accused of murdering her five-year-old son, Cairo Ammar Jordan.

In October 2022, an arrest warrant was issued for Anderson for the charges of murder, neglect of a dependent resulting in death, and obstruction of justice. However, she managed to evade arrest for over a year.

Last week, a detective received information from a concerned citizen that led authorities to locate and apprehend Anderson as she was attempting to board a train in Los Angeles County on March 14, 2023.

Indiana State Police stated in a news release that the mother is currently being held without bail at the Los Angeles County jail. The identity of Anderson’s attorney is being sought by News Finder.

The suitcase containing Cairo’s remains was discovered in rural Washington County, Indiana, and had a distinctive Las Vegas design on both the front and back. The body of the young boy was found by an individual foraging for mushrooms in a densely wooded area, as reported by Indiana State Police at the time.

An autopsy revealed that Cairo had died from an electrolyte imbalance, which is most likely caused by viral gastroenteritis – a condition characterized by inflammation of the stomach and intestines that results in vomiting and diarrhea, eventually leading to dehydration as per the information from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Dawn Elaine Coleman, a woman from Shreveport, Louisiana, was arrested in San Francisco in 2022 and charged with conspiracy to commit murder in connection to Cairo’s death. Coleman later pleaded guilty to the said charge and received a sentence of 30 years in prison, with five of those years suspended for probation, as indicated by Indiana court records.

News Finder reached out to Coleman’s attorney for comment regarding the case.
